One day I was sitting on my terrace watching ants creating a perfectly straight line in a thin layer of sand on the tiles as they were running back and forth between two ant holes. Obviously the ants has heard about the shortest path between two points, the straight line. The irregularities of the line that they drew was due to the fact that ants, like everybody else, are both mechanical and social beings, they, as humans, draw the actual lines in a physical world, not a conceptual world. They constantly stop and greet each other and move according to the number of legs they have and how the legs are attached to the body etc. The same applies to humans though we paint and draw according to our physical and social nature we share with the ants the idea of the mathematical point and the straight line.
