About The Artwork
When I was 13 I collected the ladies of Chicory Leroux. I cut them out and put them in a box. They were all the same and the collection opened on an endless horizon. When the hit 250 I closed the box and moved on. After 40 years of oblivion they came out of the box to line up as servile icons in my painting. Identical, interchangeable, neat, smiling, maternal, they paved the way for my questioning. This work is a free interpretation from the advertising design that appeared on the chicory packets of the LEROUX company in the last century.
