About The Artwork
Markiza was a cow from a Slovene farm included in the triptych titled "Feeding Time - Filtered" that captures the cows in the original barn setting during their dinner. Ješe has spent quite a lot of time with these subjects and got to know them quite well. She also named them, since they didn't have any names before she started painting them. This particular cow was quite dominant, which was also passed on to her offspring. She didn't allow anyone to pet her. Because of the chain, quite some grotesque corneous tissue grew on her neck. At the time of painting this piece, Ješe was exploring photo filters and decided to use dimmed black-and-white in this particular piece. To break the monotony of the color tones she covered some parts of the portrait with golden leaves. In the final stage, the canvas has been perforated using a bow and arrows and on closer inspection one is able to see the holes.

Slovenia
Lara Ješe is a visual artist living and working in Kranj, Slovenia. She doesn’t stick to a particular style or a medium, but most of her production resides in figurative painting. Colder and darker tones from her earlier work with animal motifs have made way for increasingly saturated colours and strong, bold shapes. In 2016 she acquired her MFA at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and also studied at the HGB Leipzig in Germany. She has exhibited in solo and group shows internationally, most notably in Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, and the USA.
