Maroon Square Painting

I am at a stage of digesting and understanding. I am working though inspirations and influences from my surroundings and developing a language through many of the basic elements of painting. I remain interested in the classic respects of painting; always looking at the Greats. Matisse, Picasso, Warhol, and Basquiat all inspire some elements in my work. Working with these influences, I manage to find a balance between working with elements from art history and staying relevant to painting in our time. Contemporary painters that contribute influence are typically multimedia artists such as Chris Ofili, Mark Bradford, and countless others. I am constantly expanding. Based in San Antonio, TX; I continue to develop my complexities of painting by building up my thought process and painting language. With the work presented in this exhibition and in exhibitions to come, I look forward to witnessing the evolutions that my work crosses as viewers interpret it. -Calvin J. Pressley
