About The Artwork
I did this piece to try to get at the ideas of nature versus culture in The Raw and The Cooked by Claude Lévi-Strauss and to express the duality of that notion with two equivalent figures, or sorts of figures one representing humankind the other representing the natural world. Really though it was an exercise in symbolism since humankind is not separate from nature but is a part of nature and the duality in that conception is false. I haven't gotten around to making a painting about that yet though.
