This painting stands on its own and is also part of a Triptych called 'Habitat 1', which is also featured here on Saatchi site. The painting can be purchased as an individual piece or all three can be purchased together. Traces of a large straw hat that my mother used to wear merges with the surrounding habitat and reveals glimpses of lives she brought in to being (and parallels 'Mother Earth') and a new Planet emerging. This collection is painted on canvas that is stretched on Aluminium stretcher bars, which are light and strong and don't warp. 120 x 100cm. The intention in these groups of paintings is as conceptual portraits and they show Humankind's interdependence/interweaving with their habitats. The identity of the figure (transformed in to a more general human presence) via the imprints of personal items of clothing, is shown merging with the figure's natural surroundings. The figure seems to be dissolving in to the landscape or maybe floating above it, resting within it and integrally interwoven with her natural surroundings; human and nature as one. In this work, the visual reference material for the Habitat elements has been sourced by collecting leaves from a local arboretum and in particular, Pine needles. Lockdown has forced me to stick close to home and my Artwork is reflecting this; my 'muses' are my daughter, my dog of 15 years, Teddy and myself. I have therefore started this third series of Climate Change paintings; Habitat paintings that focus on myself, my daughter and our dog and our relationship to our Environments and to consider our place in the family and in the world. However, these specific starting points are only springboards for conceptual portraits. This painting focuses on one of my mother's old straw hats (she was known for wearing wonderful hats, as many women of her generation did) as a starting point and references 3 x generations of women; it speaks of the cycle of life and how our actions influence those that come after us and how we are influenced by those that come before us. Parallels our interconnectedness with 'Mother Earth'. In this painting, the figure/s stands her/their ground; the traces of the figure/s do not disappear. I am thereby expressing hope that our Planet can remain in balance; with humans existing alongside Nature in respectful partnerships. Like tributaries to a river, the 'streams' in my Artwork are flowing towards a cumulative focus around those things that matter to me. Through the personal, I aim to access what matters to all of us: our Planet and its well being and healthy continuity. I have lived through a time of catastrophic damage to the Natural World; seeing our populations of wildlife decimated and habitats destroyed. I would like, through my Artwork, to express my love for the Natural World and to become as powerful a voice as possible for helping the Planet to heal
