About The Artwork
Mustangs, and Horses in colour. A patchwork of equine studies. Early in 2020, I spent some time in the mountains and desert of California, and the lushness of Florida. The experience of the mountains and desert of California was expanding in many senses, such a vast land, open and generous like the people that I met, and warmth and wonderful natural light. These paintings express optimism for me, the feeling that the world is opened out and filled with colour and I express it once again with my horses. My visions of horses hope to evoke both power and vulnerability, compassion and trust, poise, and movement.

I paint spontaneously in high-quality acrylics, varnishes, and inks, building up multiple layers, adding and removing areas of paint, using brush, palette knife, fingers, and trailing liquid acrylics, and using sticks and feathers to make marks and symbols within the fabric of the paint.

Look around! The world is full of past and future. The marks we made and are yet to make. As a painter and ceramicist inspired by the natural world, I use color, form, and texture to explore the relationship between the present and the past. My work often features archetypal imagery like horses, animals, people, landscapes and seascapes. Through my paintings of horses, I aim to map a courageous and empathic path to rediscovering our primal human drives and vulnerabilities. The horse represents the ideal, universal embodiment of natural power. I depict the horse obscured by veils, which alter its appearance while allowing its essence to remain visible. The veils symbolise the passage of time and the layers of cultural, historical and religious influences that reframe our core impulses. By revealing the original form beneath these veils, I seek to facilitate a visceral connection to our shared human origins across all eras. My goal is to create immersive works that speak to our common humanity.
