Born and raised in a small town in northern Taiwan, Li (pronounced as Lee meaning beauty) moved to the States and raised a family in her early 20’s. She studied Engineering and Architecture and finally found a love in Art. A versatile painter, Li does both Tradition and Abstract paintings. While studying at ASU, where she eventually got a degree in Painting, a research project led her to Helen Frankenthaler’s artwork, and together with works of modernists like Robert Rauschenberg and Richard Diebenkorn, Li fell in love with Abstraction. The traditionalist training provided Li with the knowledge and skills like color theory, composition, color mixing, and brush works, etc to do her abstraction art. “ I stand or sit when painting a still life or landscape, but when I paint Abstract, I dash around and my studio is a mess. The spontaneity and improvising is both awesome and exhilarating, but I love the freedom and the challenge. My paintings are about the beauty that surrounds us. I find my inspiration in places that we so often take for granted and forgotten, in little things that catch our curious eyes. I give them voices of colors and space"
