About The Artwork

Since my young age I lived with my father I thought she wasn't alive as everyone from the family was telling me . after sometimes I heard that she was alive and that she lived in Congo Lubumbashi and I stopped everything even school cause I wanted to see her but wasn't so easy In 2009 I saw my mother for the first time when I traveled to Lubumbashi and spent 1.5month with her then went back to Kigali where we stayed in contact. 2016 she called me that she was super ill and I may not see her again and that time I started to organize an exhibition to get the money for the flight unfortunately she was dead one week before the exhibition ,people helped me to go there and it was completely different what I saw there after the burial cause they organize an event after 40days of your dead and do a big event where they put fire in the middle and everyone come closer ask forgiveness the bad things and being thankful for the good time you had with the dead So everyone was saying how she was great but for me I didn't know her so I didn't have anything to say but I decided to keep her legacy alive every January since 2017 .I create an artpiece in her memory and the title of this work is her last name Rest in power mother (Julienne NGOÏE Mulongola)
