About The Artwork

This work is an opening into the endless and dynamic opening and unfolding of the universe. Always a novel experience, this painting is one of a new series of works going into 2019, combining and building on elements of Jack's previous works from 2017 and 2018, the multilayered translucent, transparent layers reveal figurative elements reminiscent of a holographic, living, nature ready to unbound and expound.

Jack Gurman was born in Massachusetts and went to school in Massachusetts and Washington , D.C. Jack Attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design studying a wide variety of Art Media and processes, primarily focusing on Painting and Art Education. Jack’s Artistic influences began with his grandfather who designed watches in Waltham, MA and spent his retirement in front of a canvas. His other artistic influences are his professors and Master Painters, Kofi Kayiga and Steve Locke. Jack has also studied the works of Rufino Tamayo, Paul Klee, Richard Diebenkorn, Matthew Gibson, George Morrison and Chakia Booker as well as many other artists. Jack primarily works as a painter in Acrylic, Watercolor and Oil on various supports. Jack also has a large body of work in digital and mixed media and has studied and displayed two and three dimensional works, installation art and performance art in locations mainly in the state of Massachusetts, but has displayed and sold work nationally and internationally. Inspiration for Jack comes from painting through the obstacles in life that keep him from painting and doing his best to make it to his studio every day. Jack finds creative sparks from prayer for nature, meditation, dance and music as well as the great mysteries that are revealed at midnight, dawn. Jack is also inspired when he can help others to have a moment to perceive new realities.
