"Old Town Rooftops" Painting

ตอนเรียนศิลปะสมัยเด็กๆ ฉันได้แต่ชายตาแอบมองผลงานของเพื่อนๆ ด้วยความอิจฉา — อิจฉาในความสดสวยของสี และกระดาษหนาอย่างดีของพวกเขา ส่วนตัวฉัน อย่าว่าแต่สีหรือพู่กันราคาแพงเลย แม้แต่กระดาษขาวเรียบๆ สักแผ่นก็ยังหาได้ยาก ความรู้สึกนั้น ฉันจดจำไม่เคยลืม

ฉันเริ่มปัดฝุ่นฝีมือจากตำราเรียนเก่าๆ พร้อมกับแกะกล่องอุปกรณ์ใหม่ๆเริ่มสร้างสรรค์ผลงานสดใสขึ้นมาอีกครั้ง เพื่อกลบอดีตอันเศร้าหมอง
ในเมื่อเราไม่อาจย้อนเวลากลับไปแก้ไขสิ่งใดได้
เราก็สร้างมันขึ้นมาใหม่เสียเลยตอนนี้
เพื่อชดเชยสิ่งที่ขาดหายไปในวัยเยาว์
ฉันได้ลุกขึ้นมาโลดแล่นบนผืนกระดาษฝ้ายในวัยชรา
จนกว่า…สีจะค่อยๆหมดไป

When I was a child studying art, I could only glance at my friends’ work with envy — the vivid beauty of their colors and the thickness of their high-quality paper. As for me, expensive brushes and paints were out of reach; even a plain, smooth sheet of white paper was hard to find. I have never forgotten that feeling.
Almost thirty years have passed. I stopped working to make others rich and found myself poorer than before. Still, I kept struggling and searching until I could finally own world-class, top-brand tools — at least a small collection of them. I began to dust off my skills from old textbooks, this time with brand-new boxes of equipment.
Now I try to create fresh, vibrant works to cover a sorrowful past. Since we cannot go back in time to fix what was missing, I will create it anew, right now — to compensate for what my youth could not have.
I have risen to play upon cotton paper in my old age,
until the paint runs out.
