Over the past few years of my life, I have found the circle in forms of spheres or orbs to be pivotal. This started when I began to study the stars and celestial bodies in astronomy. I was fascinated by everything to do with the cosmos. Ruminating on the physics, the chemistry, and the creation of the planets, moons, stars, and galaxies, I knew that reality extended beyond me and that it was way more complicated than my immediate five senses could decipher. I felt connected to something that was beyond me, yet within me.
The circles, used here, capture the cycles of creation that have stood throughout time.
If you’ve ever noticed, all life begins in the form of a circle, from atoms, to the planets, to the sun. Nearly everything in the cosmos rotates by centrifugal force. I remember as I learned this in Astronomy, I had flashbacks to my first time learning how to do flips and stunts in cheerleading and the pirouettes in dance class. The same spiraling force that creates galaxies was the same force I had harnessed in my performances. It is an exciting connection that brings shivers down my spine. It made me look at the moment that they called the “Big Bang” as a moment of inspiration.
In almost every religion, the god responsible for creation decided to turn nothing into something (maybe out of boredom). Common science calls this the Big Bang, Spirituality calls this observing a specific outcome from the field potential. I can’t think of why these concepts are still separate when they relate so closely. From nothing, or dust, or foam, forces began to turn and spin; forming particles, then matter, until it coagulates to become larger bodies. These larger formations are usually spheres. When you look at planets, stars, and atoms they are circular, and have cores that rotate. If creation was a conscious act, the force that caused it was more than likely inspired to express its origin with the circle.
In my artwork, I embody the principles of science that supersedes reality as we know it. This is my way of depicting the unseen forces that contribute to our human experience. These forces are amongst us, we feel them, we live by them, yet to our naked eye, they are non-existent. These mysterious forces guide us, they move us, and they give us phenomena as the essence of our existence. Often, we refer to it as spirit.
