About The Artwork

Slash Hollow is a place in the Lincolnshire Wolds which gets its name from an event just after the Battle of Winceby in the English Civil war in 1643. The battle took place near the village of Winceby. The royalist's lost the battle to the Parliamentarians under Oliver Cromwell and during their retreat towards Newark became trapped against a closed Parish Gate and under pressure from their own numbers and the pursuing forces were trapped and many were killed or capture that place is known as "Slash Hollow." Included in the work in the foreground is straw which was taken from the field where the work was painted. It is bonded to the work with PVA glue and overpainted in oil paint. The work is framed in a simple painted plywood frame, the outer dimensions of the frame are 136 x 205 cm. If you like machine finished precision framing this piece may not be for you! but as the artist I like it.

I love making things which reflect my life and my exploration of my beliefs and my place in this universe. I was asked the other day for three words to descried myself, I came up with Ukulele, Doodle and Life.
