About The Artwork

As an artist, I created this work in 2022 using acrylic, acrylic felt-tip pens and oil pastel on canvas with the intention of sharing my unique view of the world. This work was inspired by my personal experiences and observations as well as conversations with real women who have inspired me. These women are artists, poets and art historians from Berlin, with whom I have spent countless hours exploring the meaning of art and the importance of women in art. They are also portrayed in the painting. The theme of this work is women and the motif is taken from Emilia Bernard's painting Women with Umbrellas. However, my portrayal of women in this work is my own interpretation and reflection of the women who have influenced me. Using color, texture and composition, I aim to evoke a sense of depth and movement in the work and invite the viewer to reflect on its meaning. This work is part of my "Mellow Mood" series, which explores the theme of women in their environment and brings elements of fantasy and playfulness through the use of form and color. Like all of the pieces in the series, this one fits completely within the overall theme and style. It is meant to capture the spirit of the time while highlighting the importance of women in art. Through the use of color, composition and texture, this work conveys a unique mood and invites the viewer to explore its subtleties.

Julia Shanaytsa art practice is diverse, encompassing both illustration and painting. Julia enjoys experimenting with color, shape, geometry, and genre, often blending painterly and illustrative techniques in her work. As she puts it, "nine different artists live" within her. Julia Shanaytsa approaches her paintings with intuition and emotion at the forefront. She believes that women often rely on their gut feelings rather than logic, and this is reflected in the choices she makes in terms of color and brushstrokes in her work. Intuition is closely tied to sensory memory and helps us draw on relevant experiences from the past in the present moment. In her series "Yellow Mood," Julia depicts women in their environments while also introducing elements of fantasy and playfulness through her use of form and color. This series is inspired by classical works such as Rembrandt's "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp," reimagining these scenes in a modern context. The paintings in this series are characterized by their theatricality, sense of play, and the way they capture the spirit of the times.
