About The Artwork

It is the feeling of calm, serene, peaceful waters, laced with ice and snow during winter. The reflecting cool sun with colors of yellow and purple. It's the quiet of winter. “Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the stillness, the lovely, mysterious and awesome space.” - Ed Abbey Acrylic on canvas Wired and ready to hang Unframed with painted edges for a clean, contemporary look

Kat Collins is an award-winning intuitive abstract artist who lives and works in Easton, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Art from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Her preferred medium is mixed media (ink, collage, graphite, acrylic paint, chalk, oil pastel, charcoal, and more) on canvas, paper, or wood panels as it affords her the desired methods for spontaneity and supports her layering, textured approach. Her abstract paintings are filled with rich colors, luscious textures, and spontaneous marks mostly from her memory and imagination. Using color and line as language, her work is alive with emotion. Her work is about delving into the world around her, not simply as it appears to her, but from a deeply subjective, emotional, human experience and the desire to genuinely connect you and her with our common humanity. Kat’s art has been selected and juried for exhibitions presented by the Lehigh Art Alliance, a prestigious Pennsylvania-based organization. They have been held at Ronald K. De Long Gallery and David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries in Pennsylvania, among other venues. She has also exhibited at ArtsQuest Center, Nazareth Center For The Arts, Eclipse, Gallery 840, The Boyer Gallery, Midnight Gallery, and Connexions Gallery in Pennsylvania, Whitespace Art Gallery in New Jersey, and 311 Gallery in North Carolina. ARTIST STATEMENT I don’t plan. I don’t think. I simply create. My paintings are created through intuitive responses while engaged with the work. The process is mostly organic and spontaneous. It is a conversation, a dialogue, between me and the paintings. As I make one mark in one spot, the painting tells me where to go next. There is no preconceived image in my head about how my finished artwork will look, and I let the blank canvas lead me every step of the way. What emerges on the canvas is an internal landscape that is highly emotional and personal. Using color and line as language, my work is alive with emotion through the movement of the brushwork, rich colors and textures, and layered marks. In addition to applying paint with brushes, I use tools such as palette knives, cardboard, brayers, bubble wrap, rubber scrapers, etc. I work with acrylic paint, india ink, acrylic ink, charcoal, graphite, soft and oil pastel, collage, and neocolor.
