this painting was in a gallery in Oaxaca. Then i moved it to my mother-in-law's hotel, just a block away. it is still on that frame and sometimes I think it was not such a good idea cause it has not sell yet. but I really like it. it would be too expensive to ship in that frame, so it will ship unframed, rolled in a tube as all others- this frame is just a suggestion.
there she is dressed in the way girls in the Istmo of Tehuantepec. with the underskirt in her head. and a flor de mayo in her hand. the flor de mayo is so common in Oaxaca you can find it in trees in the streets. the have the shape of a spiral, echoing the spiral that's on top of her.
a fairy or perhaps a goddess. or even a muse. with many eyes in her head cause she can see you from many perspectives.
the upside down lady of stardust. cosmic and futuristic.

About The Artwork

My granddaughter inspired this painting. She or any girl could fit the role of the beloved little princess ballerina being blessed by the magical forces of the universe. Day and Night, Life and Death are present to welcome her and remind her that she is as bright as stardust.

I am interested in experimenting with sincretic images that capture the whole range of religious experiences. I am inspired by the architecture and mural paintings of the Aztecs, Mayan, Zapotecan and other peoples from America and I like to intersect them with the aesthetics brought to America by the Spanish, like virgins, saints and holy beings. I intersect them with a third paradigm which is my personal journey into Indian philosophies and the idea of enlightenment. The result shows where I am now, believing that art is the way, and being an artist is my religion.
