This is work is part of a series of paintings called 'Promise'. Each painting is unique and numbered. This is promise number 28. The paintings were made during a lonely period of my life and are in fact small abstract landscapes with intimately painted gestures both in acrylic and oil pastel. Each painting can be seen to represent the inner landscape we all have, that which is made up of feelings and a certain existential push and pull of emotional circumspect. Colours are always a hopeful dimension in my paintings and point towards the positive human spirit which sprouts from us even in the darkest episodes of our lives. My interest in art started at an early age. I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do. The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style. Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist. The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.
