Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

This was painted on my return from a trip to Granada and Seville, the home of Velasquez and for a time, Zurbaran, whose still life painting I love. The composition is based on four parts and the balanced interplay of ellipses and circles on squares. The jugs are traditional forms and refer to the Spanish “Bodegon” tradition and also, through their suggested symmetry, traditional musical instruments. I am fascinated by the formal passion of Duende in music - Flamenco, Tango and Jazz and though this composition is restrained, I hope it suggests something of that spirit.
