While visiting the Damien Hirst show, 'Relics', in Doha in 2013, I made a sketch of my face reflected in one of his 'shark tank' installations. Last year, I developed the sketch into a painting and added details such as his famous skull, 'For the Love of God'. For me, the process of sketching and painting myself in the mouth of Hirst's shark is an affirmation of the small, personal, hand-drawn acts of art making in the face of grand, spectacular conceptual works by high profile artists.
