Roma Madan-Soni holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Wolverhampton and works as an Assistant Professor at Box Hill College Kuwait. Her art, research, and teaching are interdisciplinary, positioned at the intersection of visual art, art history, and contemporary visual politics. Her exploratory and research interests focus on visual cultures, gender, colonial studies, and postcolonial criticism, and modern and contemporary art. Her painting has been exhibited at TAPRI, Finland, and adorns the covers of a book on Peace and Justice. She has published numerous articles on these topics. She chairs the “Transformative Education Think Tank” for the Env. Collective Impact Coalition in alliance with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Stanford. Professor Soni has received research grants and awards from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research, United Nations Habitat, and Arab Open University, among others. Her paintings and installations, based on social and environmental issues, have been exhibited at the Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyah, The Scientific Center Kuwait, Museum Of Modern Art-Kuwait, and Masaha 13, to name a few. Roma was felicitated for her presentation and workshop Wildlife of Kuwait’s Coastal Habitats, The Centre for Marine Sciences, Kuwait University, 2016. She was appreciated for her exhibit, “Preservation and Rehabilitation of the Desert Ecosystem’” Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research, 2015, 2016. Sheikha Altaf Salem Al Ali Al Sabah and Director AOU Kuwait, Arab Open University honored her at the Environmental Event, 2014. The UNHabitat Kuwait felicitated her for her presentation titled “Art for the Community and Landmarks” and for organizing the exhibition “World Habitat Day,” 2014. She led and conducted an environmental art-design presentation and workshop at Beit Sadu with Env.earth. She spearheaded and curates Artronauts, a group of art and design enthusiasts in Kuwait, who create art based on environmental and social design. She received the REUSE 4.0 award at the American University of Kuwait, 2011, and Box Hill College Kuwait for REUSE 5.0, held at the Australian College of Kuwait, 2012. She has exhibited her work internationally in India, Istanbul, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and at Saatchi gallery.
