This large oil painting is a depiction of a quantum gravity matrix. I love science, and have delved into physics as an amateur. While this model does not correspond to a model proposed by any scientist, it is my take on a possible fabric of space time. The great thing about being an artist is that you can state a proposed reality, without furnishing proof. Another aspect of this image is the inference of resonance. Information could be passed along the weblike structure, much as a spider senses vibrations in its web. Spiders tune their webs to focus on what kind of information is being resonated on the fibers they have spun. I don't insist on viewers responses to my work to be similar to my ideations. It is enough to just enjoy them on a visual level. I like to work with very liquid washes to create a spatial atmosphere and then go in with a more focused linear approach to describe the more geometric forms. Oil is a great medium to achieve those effects.

My name is Lisa Kenion. I was born in Charlotte, N.C. in 1959. I grew up in Charlotte, and then attended East Carolina University, earning a B.F.A. in 1982. I moved to Ohio in 1982, and in 1983 started graduate school at Kent State University. I earned an M.F.A. in painting in 1987, and included several sculptures in my thesis show, as well as painting. Soon after earning my M.F.A., i began working as a contractor, casting bronze, at Studio Foundry, a lost wax bronze casting facility. In 1988, three associates and I bought the foundry, and have been casting at and managing the foundry ever since. The themes in my work are the result of a great love of nature, a keen interest in art and cultural history, and an enduring interest in the intersection of art, science, philosophy and spirit.
