Sand & Water - 1/9.11 Painting

Artist Statement: In the series "Sand and Water", I explore natural pattering with the ocean. My process begins by first soaking a piece of paper in the ocean, allowing the waves and sand to gently roll over the paper and create patterns. Once the paper is lightly saturated, I pull it from the beach and let the sand dance across its surface. Then with ink, I splatter pigment across the oceans composition, emphasizing and subtly pushing its organic marks into context of composition. Once the paper has dried, I remove the sand and the final work is exposed. The images reflect a cosmic microcosm and macrocosm.
