About The Artwork

In July 2020, a series of 12 watercolors entitled “Sea, Sky and Ladder” was created on the shores of the Adriatic Sea (Vrsar). In this series, I added an imaginative ladder motif to the meditative hypnotism of the see horizon, which reveals and intensifies the spiritual dimension of our relationship to nature. I discussed the ladder motif in 2019 in a series of 12 watercolor sheets entitled Jacobs Ladder, which I presented in July 2019 at the DDA Gallery of Institute Pratt in Brooklyn. Watercolors are created by arranging transparent layers of paint and by activating the uncovered places of the composition. In terms of technology, I used the highest quality watercolor paints (Schmincke) and acid-free 100% cotton Fabrino paper. Each watercolor sheet is signed on the front and back of the sheet.

Oto Rimele is a painter, visual artist and author of visual spatial settings. He expresses himself with pure form and colour. Currently, he is Full Professor for drawing and painting at the University of Maribor, Slovenia. In 2004 he received the Prešeren Fund Award, the highest recognition for achievements in the field of art in the Republic of Slovenia. As regards construction, his images are created is such a way as to enable radiation of colour light. The images are accurately placed into the space of the exposition area and achieve the creation of non-material colour communication: his images-objects enable the light of the space to pass into the light of the image, the silence and the inner sound of the image. Rimele strives to achieve such a state of the visual image that will establish, in the interaction with the spectator and the space, the state of wholeness: the artistic image is here in order for the spectator to be able to become aware of himself again and enter the dimension of his non-materiality. His work could be described as “sacral minimalism” and corresponds, as regards the content, to the European spiritual tradition and contemporary authors such as Anish Kapoor, James Turell, Bill Viola, Arvo Pärt. Additional information on the author and his work in English can be found at the website www.otorimele.com.
