About The Artwork

This painting was born out of the leftover paint from a painting representing my black bulldog. Although I am in darkness there is a very detailed chiaroscuro in my self-portrait. But the painting is not about the resemblance with my face, but an attempt to reveal an inner state, the dark abyss that is overlapped and interwoven with an world of complementary contradictions. This work was painted during my first studio period, were in solitude i pondered about the possibility of expressing through an work of art a mere state of mind, and I found that the paradox must be assumed as a principle. In this painting I tried to achieve this result by using an abstract composition that challenges the realistic self-portrait.

Art is for me a way to interpret the world, giving it a meaning. By trying to understand the outer shelf of the universe, seeing it mentally from the outside using imaginative reductive and abstract ways, I find the path to the inner self, a Self that is both subjectively personal and universally the essence of manifested and human life. I am trying to resolve incompatibilities and antinomies through transfiguration of the use of language, making them to work in harmony and acquire thus multiple perspectives knowledge of the things. I believe that language itself is the life of the work of art. Language ONLY makes you see and feel and understand. It is the path of humanity in all its manifestations, bringing us together to our Self. "The limits of my language mean the limits of my world" (L. Wittgenstein - Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, 5.6). The WORD embodies into the WORLD, into the IMAGE.
