About The Artwork

"Shower Thoughts in Blue", NEW painting by Vania Sch. taken from the "Perfectly Normal Freaks" series, created in Amsterdam in 2017. The painting is created on a reclaimed wooden box, using a combination of techniques, mainly high-quality acrylic paint and ink. The painting is finished with matte varnish, the borders are decorated and it does not need a frame, is ready to hang as is. The woman depicted in the painting looks at her own reflection in the mirror, pausing for a few minutes after a warm shower. Such an everyday moment, but also a rare moment in our busy days when we are truly alone with our thoughts. While she gases on her own body figure, she get's lost in her thoughts, mind exploring the depths of her emotions. What is she feeling? Is the figure in the mirror a true reflection of her self?

I’m mostly inspired by people, their lives, things they do, their personalities and all those little things that make everybody different, that makes people stand out. There’s an uniqueness that everyone possesses, that is what I seek in people I meet, people that walk by me on the streets, people I observe while sitting on my favourite bench in the park near my house. There’s a story behind one’s presence, and that’s the story that I’m telling with my paintings. It’s there, written in their faces, in the way they are, in the look in their eyes, the way they hold their body. Our imagination gives personalities to objects as well, and I find that to be fascinating and inspiring. Seldom is an object just and object, we give it a secret life, a uniqueness. And often that uniqueness is visible just to us, as other people see a whole different story in the same object. So, an object can hold many different personalities, be unique in many different ways. In my work, I try to give those objects a unique voice, a distinct personality that will be recognisable to everyone, and yet, I try to leave a lot to the imagination of the observer, just to give those objects that special uniqueness that only one person can recognize. I’m passionate about painting, and have been since my earliest age. It’s my medium, my way of communicating with the world. I create instinctively, without limitations and elaborate explanations. The work does all the talking. I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (Croatia), and my work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions. I create figurative and abstract art, mostly in the expressionism style, ranging from figurative to abstract. I currently live and create in the magical city of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
