About The Artwork

The word ‘Ram’ (In Hindi language without Shiro rekha or upper line) is repeatedly used (zoom the picture to see it) to form a pattern which forms rhythm in this painting. The word refers to Hindu deity Shri Rama. This is one of the most sacred words in Hinduism. Since old times, it is widely believed that regular chanting of this word prevents grief and adversities. ‘Ram’ is believed to be the voice of the soul. Ram is the symbol of virtue, justice, obedience, bravery, valiance, modesty & helpfulness. He shows the victory of good over evil. ‘Ram’ is not just a word, it is a personality through which god took a form of human. The word ‘Ram’ is so sacred & dear that Hindus use this word as a suffix in their names, like ‘Krishnaram’, ‘Gangaram’, ‘Rajaram’, ‘Haldiram’, ‘Atmaram’ etc. The vibrations generated by this word are very positive & welcoming and that is the reason why Hindus greet each other by saying ‘Ram Ram’ in place of ‘hi’ & ‘hello’. This sacred word fills the painting with positive vibrations & makes the mind of the viewer pleasant. (Katha/story) This incident in life of Lord ‘Shri Rama’ was very awful. This incident in Ram’s 14 years exile in forest happens when ‘Ravana’ asks his uncle ‘Maricha’ to use his magical powers to disguise as a golden furred deer and to go to the forest where ‘Ram’ lived with his wife ‘Sita’ and brother ‘Laxman’ in a hut, asking him to trick them. After seeing the golden furred deer (Maricha), ‘Sita’ gets enamoured and asks ‘Ram’ to catch it & bring it for her. While ‘Rama’ is away to catch the golden deer, ‘Maricha’ (disguised as golden furred deer) calls Laxman for help by resembling Ram’s voice. Hearing Ram’s voice calling for help, Sita gets worried & asks Laxman to go and find him. For protection of Sita, Laxman makes a invisible protective boundary surrounding their hut by using an arrow (this boundary is popularly known as ‘Laxman rekha’) and goes to help Ram. Now, Sita is alone at the hut. Seeing this, Ravana impersonates himself as a monk to trick her. He begs Sita for food, she agrees, but Ravana is unable to enter the hut because of the ‘Laxman rekha’ or the protective boundary. Due to this, he asks Sita to come out of the hut & give him food. After coming out of the hut & the ‘Laxman rekha’, Sita is now unprotected & Ravana uses this opportunity & kidnaps Sita. (In ‘Sita Haran’ the word ‘Haran’ means the kidnapping) (painting description) Major part of this painting is painted by shades of green colour which shows the forest. Golden yellow colored circle in the middle shows the land where ‘Ram’ lived. A figure of hut is made in the centre by using light muddy green colour. The shape of half moon in white color & the red dot portrays Sita & shows holiness & qualities of a virtuous wife. A while colored dash line surrounding the golden yellow circle shows ‘Laxman rekha’ / the protective boundary. Powerful vibrations are depicted by multiple ‘Ram’ words (written in a small size) around the white dashed line. On the bottom side, evilness of ‘Ravana’ is portrayed with a black circle. An orange coloured arc around the black circles shows the Ravana disguised as a monk. The red coloured circle on the upper side of the artwork portrays ‘Ram’ (who is away to catch the golden deer). The olive green belt & the random vertical lines of greenish dusty white color shows chances of happening of something unpleasant & unpredicted. Prussian blue circle portrays ‘Laxman’ going to help his brother ‘Ram’. Bright green shade & the olive green belt above it shows turning of a simple life into a life full of sadness & sorrow. Medium : Acrylic colours & black marker pen on stretched canvas. Size : 24 x 24 inches (unframed) (1 inch depth)

Born : 1976, Surat, Gujarat, India. BFA from B.A Mehta Kala Mahavidhyalaya, Amalsad, Gujarat, India. Artist by soul, nature & profession. I am attracted to colours and paintings since my childhood. Completed art education with the subjects sketching, portraits & creative paintings. If talk about my paintings, most of them have the subjects related to spirituality & cosmic powers. Whenever I think of abstract art, the subjects of cosmic energy, divine power, soul, prime soul, human existence & spirituality gets portrayed on the canvas spotaneously. Most of my paintings are of modern, tantrik, conceptual, abstract, expressionism, impressionism styled. I believe Tantrik as an ideal style to express the infinite powers of human mind & Aesthetics. You will see more colours than lines in my artworks. I believe lines are a bond & resrtriction in expressing feelings. Freely used colours make the feelings visible. All the qualities of the world have been identified as three basic gunas (Guna is referred to a quality of human), Tamas(dullness, inertia), Rajas(luxury, passion) & Sattva(harmony, purity). Tamas is a dull & sluggish mind , Rajas is an extroverted mind full of aggression, anxiety & desire, Sattva is a calm, wise & happy mind. I make the best use of colors to express these gunas(qualities). When I use colours on canvas with an open mind, it makes the viewer feel my feelings. My paintings make the viewer fall into a kind of fascination. When someone studies my paintings deeply, he/she can feel the divinity. No matter wherever the painting is placed, you can feel the vibes when you see it because I don’t use the colours just to fill the blank canvas, but I use them as my soul teaches me to make viewer feel the positivity, gratitude & love. A scene in a movie or play expresses a feeling through music, facial expressions, lighting and this makes the audience really feel what the artists are trying to express, similarly, painting is also a visual art in which composition of colours, lines, shapes, tone and textures make the viewer experience the feelings. I always feel satisfaction when making paintings but my paintings have it’s value only when the viewer can also feel the same. In short, I see painting as an art of expressing feelings. I am artist not because I make paintings, but because I express wonderful feelings though the paintings. I am thankful to all my art teachers & friends for all their support, specially to a wonderful artist Mr.
