About The Artwork
“The Sphynx Cats” series was created for purely aesthetic purposes. To (and for) the joy and pleasure of cat lovers. Sphynx Cat, due to the lack of hair, is extremely attractive to the draftsman. My Sphynx is a synthesis of many cat faces (mouths) of real cats and literary heroes like the cat from Cheshire Cat and the cat Behemoth from “The Master and Margarita” of M. Bulgakov. First, I created a linocut in the shape of a cat's torso, and then I painted it on paper. All the sphinxes were created by reflecting the same form. Each cat was made of several layers of colors. Finally, each cat was finished with a brush and acrylic paints. Busts of cats appear on a different background: taro leaves, palm trees, creepers, shells. ____ The work will be shipped rolled in a tube. Work on paper, requires framing in a standard frame. Minimum frame size 70 x 100 cm (27.5 x 39.4 inch).

In my paintings I try to combine the sphere of physis, sensual pleasure, biology, and colors with symbolic elements evoking ontological and metaphysical meanings. My canvas constitute a mixture of textural and flat painting; Working on paper, I apply various techniques; I also press some parts of my linocuts. I am fond of order, symmetry and classic skills. At the same time, in painting and drawing I use techniques that allow chance decalcomania, grattage, dropping. At the first stage of my creative work I am quick and spontaneous. Then, at the next stages, I tame chaos and introduce order. As a result, my paintings form multilayer phenomenon. The layer of colors, regions of colors interactions constitute the foundation of my paintings. The material layer consists of the specific techniques I applied, textures, and deposits of paints. The layer of represented objects includes figures like woman, boy, tree, rhino. The layer of meanings consists of a story that usually finds no final on the picture.
