About The Artwork

A celebration of a new season in fresh new hues of green in a waterside scene of budding trees. I have great respect for watercolourists and wanted to try my hand at water mediums. In contrast to how I use my oil paints as texture and line, I now concentrated more on the fluidity of the medium and its relationship and interaction with the canvas in an application. In this medium, I am lead by the natural formation of shapes that I plan but which, with the help of water on the support, largely informs the composition. I find this a beautifully organic and spontaneous medium. My choice for acrylic ink instead of watercolour was because I prefer the original lines to stay intact after first application because I do not want to shift and manipulate the medium to suit my view but rather be informed by it.

As an atmospheric sea, sky, and landscape artist, my work has always been focused on capturing the mood and memory of a particular moment in time. Whether it is the soft colors of a sunrise, the shifting shadows of a mountain range, or the fluidity of the sea, my paintings seek to evoke the emotions and sensations that come with experiencing the natural world. While I primarily work in oil paint, I also love the fluidity of ink and watercolor, which allows me to experiment with different techniques and textures. Recently, I have been inspired to expand my style to include wildlife themes, using neutral soft color tones and impasto marks to create a sense of depth and texture. My goal is to create a visual narrative that captures the beauty and fragility of nature, while also highlighting the interconnectedness of all living things. Through my paintings, I aim to convey a sense of tranquility and peace, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the natural world and connect with their own memories and experiences. I use impasto marks to create a tactile and textured surface, allowing the viewer to feel the movement and energy of the wildlife in my paintings. By incorporating wildlife themes into my landscapes, I hope to create a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork, raising awareness of the need to protect and preserve our planet's biodiversity. In my work, I am drawn to the soft, neutral tones of nature, which create a sense of timelessness that underscores the importance of conservation for future generations. By capturing the beauty and complexity of the natural world, I hope to inspire others to appreciate and protect it. Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my own deep love and respect for the natural world. Through my paintings, I hope to inspire others to see the beauty and magic of the world around us, and to take action to protect it for generations to come. “in times when one can produce no great effect in the outer world, one should seek to shape the expression of one’s being in small ways” I ‘Ching 9, the image
