Scottish-born artist Jeannette Johnston has lived for many years in the South of France, where the luminous landscapes of Provence and the French Riviera provide endless inspiration for her work. Painting has been a lifelong passion, pursued since childhood and developed independently as a self-taught artist.
Her work reflects a deep admiration for the great European colour traditions, particularly the Impressionists, the Fauves, and the modern Scottish Colourists. Like these painters, she is drawn to the expressive power of colour and light, using a vibrant palette and confident brushwork to evoke atmosphere and place.
Working primarily from the landscapes and coastal scenes of southern France, she seeks to capture the warmth, radiance, and timeless beauty of the Mediterranean. Her paintings celebrate the distinctive light of the region - where sea, sky, and land meet in a harmony of colour that has inspired artists for generations.
Through expressive colour and an intuitive painterly approach, Jeannette Johnston’s work offers a personal interpretation of Provence and the Côte d’Azur, inviting the viewer into a world of sunlit landscapes and enduring Mediterranean charm.
