Street Vendor: Women From India Series Painting

Oil on Canvas. The Women from India series paintings are based on photographs taken by the painter during his trip to India in early 2012. It is estimated that there are around 10 million street vendors in India. This one was taken at a place called Darbhanga in Bihar state. Women street vendors dressed up in colorful Sarees (traditional Indian clothing) bring vegetables and other affordable goods from villages and sell them in the cities. They provide consumers with convenient and accessible retail options. Street vending as an occupation has existed for hundreds of years and is considered a foundation of many cities' historical and cultural heritage.
