This is one of the five paintings of the series called 'Shiva Panchakshara Stotra'. Water colour paintings inspired by the five syllables 'Na' 'Ma' 'Shi' 'Va' 'Ya' of Shiva Panchakshara Stotra. This is called 'Ma' and is based on the poem by Adi Shankara describing the qualities of Lord Shiva. The syllable Ma in Devnagri is used as a motif in the composition and have tried to visually represent all the elements described in the second Stotra. I have used Brustro Artist's water colour paper (300 gsm), QoR water colour and Camelin Photo Inks. The first stanza 'Ma' of the poem in Sanskrit and translation in English: 'Ma' Mandakini salila chandana charchitaya nandisvara pramathanatha mahesvaraya, Mandara pushpa bahupushpa supujitaya tasmai 'Ma'karaya naMah Shivaya He who is worshipped with water from the Mandakini river and smeared with sandal paste, He who is the lord of Nandi and of the ghosts and goblins, the great Lord, He who is worshipped with Mandara and many other flowers, Salutations to that Shiva, who is represented by the syllable “Ma”
