About The Artwork

This is one of the five paintings of the series called 'Shiva Panchakshara Stotra'. Water colour paintings inspired by the five syllables 'Na' 'Ma' 'Shi' 'Va' 'Ya' of Shiva Panchakshara Stotra. This is called 'Ya' and is based on the poem by Adi Shankara describing the qualities of Lord Shiva. The syllable Ya in Devnagri is used as a motif in the composition and have tried to visually represent all the elements described in the fifth Stotra. I have used Brustro Artist's water colour paper (300 gsm), QoR water colour and Camelin Photo Inks. The fifth stanza 'Ya' of the poem in Sanskrit and translation in English: 'Ya' Yagna svarupaya jatadharaya pinaka hastaya sanatanaya. Divyaya devaya digambaraya tasmai 'Ya' karaya Namah ShivaYa He who is the embodiment of yagna (sacrifice) and who has matted locks, He who has the trident in his hand and who is eternal, He who is divine, who is the shining one and who has the four directions as his clothes, Salutations to that Shiva, who is represented by the syllable “Ya”
