The Fall Painting

Inspired by the Universal story of the Fall of Man from Paradise, this piece captures a moment in the history of mankind when Adam and Eve fell from the Heavens to Earth. Although most paintings and illustrations approach this happening in a comic and literal visual style, in this painting, I tried to project inwardly and represent it in a less tangible method, in an understanding that I made the Fall, a psychological plunge rather than a physical drop from a higher realm in the heavens to a lower plane here on earth. By carving into oil pastel, I was able to accentuate the desired effect of the fall, by overlapping rays of color to create motion and combining them with a texture, inspired by ancient calligraphic writings in order to cummunnicate the language and knowledge that the first man held, how it was lost after the drop and how we’re still seeking to regain it.
