This painting is my story inspired by a combination of the most beautiful story I've ever read, a Spanish novel called Don Quixote, and of a drawing by the great Spanish romantic artist of darkness Goya. Goya's character becomes my own Don Quixote. In the novel he is a gentleman obsessed with books of chivalry, in love with a fictional female, searching for adventure, with one goal - to do justice. Don Quixote was a noble (if mad) character. Mine is a fool riding a mule out of the ocean and causing a big enough wave to overturn the biggest pirate ship. There is a threat looming however - Death. It is a chase, as it always is. Not everything under the sun is beautiful. Wait... Is that a sun? No! That's a moon! This is a sad story and the hero is about to ride his ass into the world of complexity. He doesn't look excited about it, not because of confusion or fear but because he is dying from a hole in his chest. Seems his heart is broken and he is tired. The pirates got him after all.
