This series of faces were painted after my return from the devastating earthquakes in Kathmandu, Nepal in April 2015. While the earthquakes and aftershocks were happening I was so surprised to find the resiliency of the people there. When the ground became still again, if all was well, there was immediate joy, laughter, music, and dancing. I had never seen anything like it. These paintings are a reminder to choose joy in every situation. A reminder to not focus on the past or the "what if's" but to focus on "what is". These were featured in a show at Catsketch Studio at the Brewery in Los Angeles in 2015. I sketched them with graphite, then laid in watercolor and oil pastel. The nature of each medium helped me communicate the language I was feeling inside. It was a wonderful exercise for me in expression and letting go. This painting was painted in Brooklyn, NY. Face 010
