About The Artwork

Where Monsters Are Born and Die is a piece conceived from the memory of pain. The pain that comes to you when a monster rips out your childhood and throws you into fear. Then you close in on yourself, you are your salvation and your refuge. Nothing will make you feel safe anymore, although what you want most is to be happy again and show yourself as you really are. This work is the first of a series that until now has not found its opportunity to be created. My life is punctuated by three dramatic events, a terrible event in childhood, which is represented in this series about monsters. A severe depression at age 30 and a diagnosis of leukemia at age 44. All my work revolves around loneliness, pain and art as a way to escape from an unfortunate life. There are dark pieces and others that are more friendly, but in general they all seek to speak to the viewer from the essential, minimalism, only saying what matters. This series is divided into three parts, this piece belongs to the second of them. This series of pieces are made on a wooden board prepared by myself with 100% natural casein or glue, not derived from petroleum. The painting is acrylic or casein tempera. Its format is small because it represents intimacy, a whisper between the artist and the viewer of the work.

I am learning to explore and bring to light the darker side of my life experiences. Meanwhile I continue drawing the essence of those real or imagined landscapes that make me so happy because they help me get away from that darkness... I paint the darkness and draw the light, always from silence. © Mariano Luque Romero.
