Painting, Oil on Canvas
Size: 48 W x 30 H x 2 D in
This painting is part of a study on Nature vs. Man as seen in city settings. Once a beautiful home on the corner, this brick building was an icon near South Street until being demolished many years after it stood in disrepair yet allowing the lush ivy to grow and still be beautiful. When man moves on, the buildings remain, often again taken over by nature, which will always prevail. The original painting was sold to a private collector. The print includes white space around the live/image area to allow for framing and to allow for proportions and all content of the original painting to remain in tact.

I am a realist painter with a lean to the abstract, and I try to capture more than the physical structure of a building or landscape. I find the essence of a subject and show beauty in the nuances, often featuring the conflict of Nature versus Man. It began with a fascination for found objects. It's the stuff that floats in on the tide, blows in on the wind or rises up from the soil; random objects, even buildings once centers of industry or tourist destinations, that are turned from useful to useless. I can see the strength and allure in things and in their history, and I try to bring life back in. I want to show both the harsh realities and magnificent beauties in everyday life and our surroundings.
