About The Artwork

Subject & Description: The insides of a medieval style white chess piece King are exposed as the King floats above a chess board with missing black squares set high in the sky. Artistic Theme: The King's Persona is inspired by a painting of a chess piece Knight that appeared in a magazine in 1979. The exposed insides of the King are inspired by a circa 1980s computer circuit board. The objects located on the chess board surrounding the king identify some common characteristics of his masculine identity. The background and chess board are painted in bold layers of color. Artist: Reginald D. Robinson Special Edition Reproductions of The King’s Persona © This Special Edition reproduction series is printed on canvas and the number of impressions is restricted to 5 copies, with no additional copies being produced later. Artist Enhancements: 1. The blank area of the canvas (see additional image #1) is hand-painted by the artist in a theme just like the original, thereby producing a unique copy of the original. The medium used in this stage of the process is oil paint. 2. The blank area for the canvas is prepared for re-painting (see additional image #2). The artist will also prepare any other area of the reproduction needing further enhancements for re-painting as well. 3. An initial coating of oil paint is applied to the blank area (see additional image #3) and any (as needed) enhancements are completed on the King’s robe (between hands and the feet). 4. The canvas dries for ~ 24 hours. Thereafter, the final sky scene is completed (see additional image #3). The canvas is signed by the artist and numbered (for example 2/5) to show the unique number of that impression and the total special edition size. 5. Once the areas painted are completely dry (in ~ 3 days), the artist applies 2 coats of a special semi-gloss varnish to protect the new reproduction. These final artist enhancements take another 2 days to complete. 6. Your unique copy of the original is then sent to the art gallery for final stretching and framing. This process takes 2 – 3 business days to complete. 7. Your unique copy of the original is then packaged and scheduled for shipment to you via FedEx 2nd Day Air (US destinations only). The shipment is insured against damages incurred during its transport (including loss of the package). 8. You will receive an e-mail with the FedEx tracking number once FedEx has picked up the package from us.
