A contemporary style deep sided canvas. ON EXHIBITION WITH CAMBRIDGE CONTEMPORARY ART until August 2023 Original acrylic painting. Ready to hang, this artwork does not need framing. This view is typically East Anglian and is the filed at the back of my studio here in rural Cambridgeshire. I always find it an interesting subject - colours change throughout the year as the grasses grow and mature. We leave it as a wildflower/grass meadow and have planted some trees in a small copse there. The dark area of shadow is part of this little wood. The meadow is a peaceful place to be, full of birdsong too.

The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
