About The Artwork

The story behind my narrative on this canvas: When I decided to paint a portrait of a young woman from the indigenous tribe of Saami, I was reading through alot of articles to clearly understand about their life. When I read, that most of them have moved on to cities integrating into other societies and for a better living, for a moment I thought about the people who stayed back. Thats exactly what I wanted to paint. The people who stayed back to live the life they always were used to, fearing changes, fearing the outcome of taking such a big step but here she is standing right there on my canvas looking right at us living the life her ancestors lived & loved. Letting go of her own kind for the better! I feel that the people who went onto making their new lives will always have a part of their puzzle in this core! The core feeling is what I wanted to portray on my canvas. Hence the title-"THE PIECES LEFT BEHIND". Mixed media on 40cm×60cm on stretched canvas. Certificate of Authenticity provided. Hand signed by the artist.
