About this Artwork
The title of the painting refers to a quote attributed to the greek philosopher Heraclitus: "The road up and the road down is one and the same."
While this work can be interpreted as pure abstraction, some recognizable forms and symbols that arise from the interplay of color fields and lines should remain legible and are intentionally left open for different interpretations.

About the Artist
Luna Ljus is a multidisciplinary artist born in Brazil and based in Germany. She works primarily on semi-abstract watercolor paintings and draws influence from Fauvism and Abstract expressionism, especially Color field painting. Her works are associations of lines, geometrical and biomorphic forms and color that tell a story inspired by myth, literature, art history and pop culture.

Technique
The artist develops different approaches to a particular theme, subjecting them to a continuous process of form reduction. Her process entails first painting the carefully planned composition with watercolors completely and from there deciding how to modify the color fields and lines. These modifications are made over several days or weeks according to the change in the ideas and feelings that inspired the original composition. The result can be very different from what was initially planned. This allows for unexpected forms or themes to appear in the painting in a way that was not consciously intended.

Inspiration
Luna Ljus is ultimately concerned with existential questions and her work draws inspiration from Antiquity, Myth and Art History with occasional references to Pop culture. Her main influences are Fauvism and Abstract expressionism, especially Color field painting.

About The Artwork

"The Same Road" presents itself as a harmonious blend of colors and textures, but as one delves deeper, it reveals layers of meaning intricately woven into its fabric. Inspired by the reflections of the ancient philosopher Heraclitus, the painting becomes a visual representation of the continuous ebb and flow of life's journey. The rich palette of cool blues juxtaposed against the deep, grounding browns speaks to the very essence of Heraclitus' philosophy. These contrasting hues are not merely representative of the physical roads we traverse; they encapsulate the highs and lows, the joys and sorrows, and the victories and defeats we encounter along our path. The very essence of our transient existence is mirrored in the merging and diverging of these colors. Employing various mediums — ranging from the fluidity of watercolor to the bold strokes of acrylic and the intricate detailing possible with colored pencils — the artist has transformed the canvas into a symphony of textures. Each brushstroke, each line, tells a story of change, of transformation. The choice of the Amatruda - La carta di Amalfi paper, known for its superior quality and long-standing history, adds another layer of narrative, suggesting that while life is transient, art, in its beauty and grandeur, has the power to transcend time. One cannot help but be drawn to the wavy, almost rhythmic patterns that dominate the piece. They bring to mind not just pathways but the flowing rivers of time, the concentric circles of tree rings marking the passage of years, or even the intertwined spirals of DNA that carry the code of life. These patterns serve as a visual testament to the cyclical nature of existence, hinting at the intertwined dance of life, death, and eventual rebirth. The piece invites viewers to embark on a journey of introspection, urging them to confront the realities of change, impermanence, and the eternal cycle of life.

Luna Ljus, a multidisciplinary artist originating from Brazil, presents a diverse portfolio centered around the motif of metamorphosis. Her creations resonate with profound shifts—be they physical, emotional, or historical. Drawing from a rich tapestry of inspirations, including mythology, sci-fi, and the annals of art history. Ljus's invites audiences to a realm where the present moment is momentarily set aside, allowing for a cathartic journey through emotion, only to circle back with a rejuvenated perspective. Employing a blend of the abstract and the literal, she reimagines literary, fictional, and historical themes, often through a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues. At the heart of her repertoire is the notion of transformation. Each piece, echoing life's cyclical dance of birth, decay, and rebirth, beckons onlookers to ponder the depths of change. Her visual lexicon unfolds with a mix of geometric musings and organic shapes, painting dreams and hinting at alternate dimensions. There's a deliberate interplay of color and form—a testament to her infatuation with their symbiotic relationship. Ljus's canvases pulsate with energy, largely credited to her choice of spirited, juxtaposed colors. The echoes of Fauvism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism, particularly the traces of Orphism and color field techniques, are undeniable in her work. Moreover, the recurring patterns and symbols in her pieces are deliberate nods to mythology, science fiction, and the annals of art history. Ljus's meticulous method involves a profound exploration of narrative through the prism of elementary forms and vivid colors, often blurring the lines between the abstract and the definitive. Her penchant for the tactile essence of paper and water-soluble pigments pushes her to constantly experiment with varied mediums, crafting semi-abstract artworks. Each creation undergoes an intriguing evolution. Beginning with a detailed watercolor foundation, the piece is subject to alterations in color fields and strokes over days or even weeks, reflecting the evolving thoughts and sentiments that sparked its inception. This fluid process sometimes yields unforeseen motifs, adding serendipitous layers to her work. Ljus's oeuvre is thoughtfully segmented into series: "Renewals" delves into the nuances of change. "Strange Worlds" is a poetic contemplation of alternate realities and entities.
