ක්‍රිස්තු පූර්ව 3 වැනි සියවසට පමණ අයත් පූර්ව බ්‍රාහ්මි අකුරින් ලියැවුණු, කුඩුම්බිගල විහාරයේ පිහිටි ගල්ලෙනක කටාරයට පහළික් දක්නට ලැබෙන සෙල්ලිපියකි. සෙනරත් පරණවිතාන මැතිතුමා විසින් සකසා පළකිරීමට යෙදුණු Inscriptions of Ceylon කෘතියේ 498 අංකය යටතේ ප්‍රසිද්ධ කරල තියෙන මෙම ලිපියේ ‘පරුමක-නදික-පුතශ පරුමක-මිතශ ලෙණ මහශුදශනෙ ශගශ දිනෙ‘ යන්නයි දැක්වෙන්නේ. තේරුම බැලුවොත් ‘රමුඛ නන්දිකගේ පුත් වන ප්‍රමුඛ මිත්තගේ මහාසුදස්සන [නම්] ලෙණ සංඝයාට පරිත්‍යාග කරන ලදී‘ යන්නයි දැක්වෙන්නේ. පරණවිතාන මැතිදා පැහැදිලි කරල තියෙනවා මේ ලිපියේ කියන ‘ප්‍රමුඛ නන්දික ගේ පුත් ප්‍රමුඛ මිත්ත‘ නම් ප්‍රභූවරයා අනෙකෙකු නොව දුටුගැමුණු මහරජුගේ සේනාව හෙඹ වූ ප්‍රධාන සෙන්පති ‘නන්දිමිත්‍ර යෝධයා‘ බව. මේ ශිලාලේඛනයේ මුළින් දැක්වෙන සංකේතය, ඒ පිළිබඳ උනන්දු අය අතර ප්‍රසිද්ධ ‘ත්‍රි-රත්න සංකේතය‘ කියන නමින්. ‘වෘෂභ සංකේතය‘ හා ‘ටෝරින් සංකේතය‘ යන නම් වලින් හඳුන්වන්නේ ද මේ සංකේතයමයි. දඹදිව ඇති ඉතා පැරණි බෞද්ධ පුදබිම්වල මේ සංකේතය සටහන් වෙලා ඇති ආකාරය අදටත් දැකගන්න පුළුවන්. එයින් බුද්ධ, ධම්ම හා සංඝ යන බුදු දහමේ පැණෙන ත්‍රි රත්නයන් නියෝජනය කරමින් මෙම සංකේතය පැවතුණු බව ඒ පිළිබඳ අධ්‍යයනය කළ විද්වතුන්ගේ අදහස වෙනවා. දඹදිව පිහිටි සාංචි ස්තූපයේ සතර දෙසින් පිහිටුවා ඇති අගනා තොරන් මත මෙම සංකේතය පිහිටුවා ඇති බව දැකගන්න පුළුවන්.

Gayan Hemarathne is an artist based in Sri Lanka whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. He was born in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. In the series of paintings titled "Nuwarakalaviya,", the artist continues his investigation of the subjects of Mahavamsa’s time gaps with the Anuradhapura period. Most of the paintings explore Buddhist philosophy and archaeological contexts. The artist uses his practice to strengthen his spiritual consciousness. In addition, Gayan's artistic practice is also influenced by abstractionism. He favors the medium of acrylic on canvas in the creation of his conceptually based pieces.
