Emma Benz is a full time watercolour artist based in Oxfordshire. Emma's background is in Painting Restoration and she studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art before working at the National Museum of Wales and the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Emma returned to her first love of painting just over 2 years ago but utilises her knowledge of artists techniques and materials gained through her many years as a painting restorer. Emma's work has been exhibited throughout the South East and she is represented by the Cambridge Contemporary Art Gallery. Emma draws inspiration from the natural world and her main focus is on bringing the outside in, something that has become even more prevalent during recent times. She uses specialist Japanese watercolours on the highest quality watercolour paper. On a number of her original paintings and giclee prints, Emma also hand gilds using 24k gold leaf, a skill she acquired as a painting restorer. Emma was invited to take part in the acclaimed Art on a Postcard Summer Auction this year, selected as part of a group of leading contemporary artists chosen for 'whose work stands out as challenging conventions and breaking new ground.' Emma's painting 'Berry Special' created for the auction was featured in The Times newspaper June 2, page 12.
