Painting: Oil, Chalk, Household on Canvas.
"I'm deeply inspired by birds of paradise and the overall flashiness of the animal kingdom. I have always had an affinity to the life sciences and learning about the evolution of life, which has ended up playing a major role in my art. This toucan was a joy to paint, particularly his beak. He looked really odd before I added his "eyeshadow", which I found interesting - he is a perfect specimen, an artwork on his own. I've developed a bit of an attachment to him (is it obvious?).... and hope he finds a home that really shows him off. Another interesting thing about this piece is the texture of the leaves, which is the background showing through (the underpainting was inspired by Mark Rothko)."
