About The Artwork
I was on a walk to the park one day in West Seattle where I lived at the time. Walking through the quiet back streets I passed a yard with a fantastic collection of flowers. One poppy in particular caught my attention; it seemed to uncurl and spiral out from the most spectacular center pod. I occurred to me that this flower was expanding outward in a great bang, in proportion to its size, like the universe itself. I don't fully understand why I put the Earth in the painting. I think I simply wanted to show where this particular little flower, which we call a poppy, comes from.

I'm an American artist, designer and writer living in the greater Seattle area of Washington State. I studied commercial art in Seattle in the early 90s. Although I had an introduction to painting at this time, I'm mostly self-taught. I have works in both oil and acrylic and I'm a skilled draftsman who mastered pencil and pen drawings early on.
