Turmoil Painting

Many children suffer every day for being born to parents unfit to care for them. And while we all need a license to drive a car, any two people can bring a child into this world at any time, whether they are fit to be parents or not- a responsibility that far outweighs operating a vehicle! I started producing these works of poured acrylic with foreground images in oil the first few days of the lockdown when we were still trying to wrap our heads around the scale and the scope of the pandemic. I am still making them today, when we are above water, yet still forging the right path forward towards regaining control of our lives and understanding how this common experience affected us; a species sharing one vulnerable planet. This painting exists in water; in a flow of feelings and a wave of events. It illustrates a state of mind that still does not have the time to catch its breath.
