Twice Yellow Painting

The GESTURAL series was created by Annabel Andrews and finished at the end of 2023. The origin of the series comes from a series of drawings on paper made in the summer and which were inspired by quick and minimalist strokes, based on Haikus Japanese, poetic texts about nature. Influences of calligraphy and use of line or gesture in black on some background colour. It is an abstract and lyrical series with moving line gestures harmonious and defined. It is a minimalist work and incorporates some geometric element, which is one of its identity elements of all her work. They are made of a layer of casein glue primer on the 100% raw cotton canvas and the gestural line is gesso black with a thick round brush. Andrews has used pigments diluted in water and liquid watercolor with casein to look for luminosity and diffused nuances on the canvas. Finally she adds a premium gel base to set and better preserve the paint.
