About The Artwork

Vanitas still-life paintings traditionally refer to the transitory nature of life. "Vanitas" typically show the material artifacts of life as a symbol of that which withers and dies, or that is left behind when one passes. Often an hourglass, or other symbol of the passage of time, is used. In this case I have used a more contemporary substitution of the kitchen timer, which is also nearing obsolescence in the digital age.

Born 1967, California. Currently teaching at several universities. I enjoy lecturing and traveling. Since 2001 I have developed works based on various themes, such as the mortal sins, cautionary tales, a boxing as a metaphor for the creative process. I have worked in a variety of media, from watercolor and acrylic paint, to oil painting, encaustic (wax and pigment) and drawing with China markers (wax crayons).
