Old King Cole was a merry old soul, And a merry old soul was he; He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl, And he called for his fiddlers three... I began thinking about this traditional rhyme after re-watching 'Interview with a Vampire'. I imagined a dark context where the old king is in fact the Vampire Le Stat on his plantation, and the fiddlers three are his terrified slaves summoned at midnight... Painted in Lamp Black and Titanium White and blended Crimson, the overall colour scape of this work is purple red against black and white.
