„Vulnerable“ belongs to a series called „Sunflowerocean“. Sunflowerocean is a series about emotions. Emotions towards other humans and myself. Emotions about growing, learning, regretting, observing. Emotions regarding friendship and love, happinesses and sadness. Emotions that are reflected in words and stories; stories that happened, stories that are untold or imaginary. Behind these paintings are a lot of fragile feelings, late night thoughts and conversations and atmospheres of situations that are unique. In some way the paintings might be riddles - symbols, colors and composition, comprise a for the observer hidden, only conceivable, meaning. But this is not important for the observer. A painting as a whole is meant to touch vulnerable and suppressed feelings and memories, in hope of accepting or letting them go. The series is a diary, with the simple difference that everyone can read their own story.

Born in Chechnya and living in Germany, Alaro was drawn to the arts from a young age. Her bicultural identity has played an important part when it comes to her art, being both a challenge and a blessing. Additionally, her role as a woman has significantly affected her artwork: “Being a black sheep in one society, makes you special in the other. Topics like this are sometimes quite frustrating, but by ordering those resulting emotions into art, I see beauty even in harder times”, as the artist describes. Working with various media, such as oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolour, oil pastels, charcoal, ink, and digital art, Alaro mostly identifies with Expressionism, Neo-expressionism, and Fauvism. Her work is quite personal and intimate, as it often portrays herself or her feelings. Strong emotions, such as anger, blind love, happiness, rage, and sadness are a main source of inspiration for Alaro: “This way I not only deal with these emotions for myself, I also enjoy making the observers dig into their own emotional chaos”, in her own words. Through her artwork, she wishes to show that being free is the “highest good”, while she aims to show how valuable art is to our society.
